Healing and Tranformational Series

In its purest form, Touch Drawing is done in series. Since the images can be created very quickly, each one translates a moment's awareness into image. Each drawing is a stepping stone to the next, guiding me deeper into the process. When seen as a whole, the series reflects a transformation in consciousness. Sometimes I create a series dedicated to the healing and development of another person. Other times I go into the natural environment and allow the spirit of nature to inspire me. Or I might wake early in the morning and create a series as my meditation for the day.

Breast Cancer Transformed 1 Slide Show
Breast Cancer Transformed 2 Slide Show
These are two series of Touch Drawings done to support the healing process of a friend who had just undergone surgery for breast cancer. October 2002
Death Process
A beloved friend had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She used it as a catalyst for her awakening. After three years, she slipped into a coma. Remaining in her home, she was cared for by beloved friends through the process of dieing. One afternoon, I set up my materials and drew in the sacred presence of her being. I cannot know if this communion with her spirit was helpful to her soul as she prepared to die, but I hope it was.
Breast Cancer Healing
When a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, my way to support her during surgery was to draw. During her recovery the walls of her room were covered with the images.

Palestinian Israeli Relations Series

Though the immediacy of Touch Drawing, I am able to visually portray both the content and energetic qualities of a lecture or meeting. As I listen, I translate the words of the presenter and the feeling they evoke into images. This series was created during a talk by Yehezkel Landau on Israeli/Palestinian relations. This presentation includes notes on what he was saying while I drew each image. Find out more about his work here www.friendsofopenhouse.org. I embellished the drawings with color afterwards.

This set of Interpretive Touch Drawings is on the Healing and Transformation page because it is an example of how images can be used for healing on a collective level; they can acknowledge and transform challenges into new visions of possibility. They image can then be used to help actualize a potential reality. See many more Interpretive Touch Drawings here

Old Growth Forest and Beach Slide Show
One beautiful summer day, I found a quiet spot in an old growth forest in the state park near my home and set up my drawing board. Later that day I hiked down to the beach and completed the series. I embellished the drawings with color afterwards.
Faces of the Universe Slide Show
A series of Touch Drawings created with two
hands on one day during a contemplative retreat.
For me, the faces are the deepest form of Touch Drawing meditation.
